Afghanistan seeks route for oil exports from Russia through its territory to South Asia

The Afghan government's proposal to create an oil export route from Russia to South Asia through its territory will not only boost Afghanistan's economy but also strengthen ties with neighboring countries in the energy sector.

Afghanistan's Industry and Trade Minister Nouriddin Azizi told Sputnik that Afghanistan plans to start talks with Moscow about establishing a logistics center in Herat province to streamline exports to South Asia, including Russian oil. Told.

"We want to start negotiations on this issue and guarantee that part of Russian oil shipments will pass through Afghan territory. This is the closest route," Azizi said at the ongoing Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum. Stated.

He also noted that Kabul is already implementing a program to develop similar logistics centers in cooperation with Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Azizi previously told Reuters that the Taliban* are betting on "millions of tons of oil" that Russia is expected to sell to South Asian countries over the next few years.
