Iraqi officials have warned that Israeli resistance fighters will attack "from afar" if the government follows through on its threat to go to war with Lebanon.
The comments were made on Monday by Abu Alaa al-Warae, Secretary-General of the Said al-Shuhada Brigades.
The brigade is part of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), a coalition of resistance movements in Arab countries. They are also part of the Iraqi Islamic Resistance, an umbrella organization of anti-terrorist fighters. Since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime launched its genocidal war against the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Resistance has conducted numerous attacks against targets in the occupied Palestinian territory.
So far, Iraqi warplanes have "attacked Zionist enemy bases from a distance of more than 800 kilometers," Warae said. But, he added, "if the Zionist entity commits the folly of waging war against Lebanon, the geographical barrier will be removed."
"In this case, the battle will take place in a remote location, where the resistance's full range of military weapons will be able to be deployed and hit targets with great precision."
After the outbreak of the Gaza war, the Israeli regime launched sporadic attacks on Lebanon, leading to a gunfight with the Hezbollah resistance movement.
The gunfight has intensified since Israel killed senior Hezbollah commander Sami Taleb Abdullah.
The movement retaliated by firing hundreds of rockets into the northern part of the occupied territories.
Last Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it had approved a plan to attack Lebanon, raising concerns that the regime might try to take advantage of its repeated threats to turn Lebanon into a second Gaza. But Hezbollah Secretary-General Said Hassan Nasrallah asserted in a recent speech that "if all-out war is forced upon Lebanon, the resistance will fight without restraint, rules or borders," and that "anyone who thinks of waging war against us will 'repent,'" the Hezbollah leader said.

The push led by Senator Bernie Sanders falls short, but advocates say it shows progress for the Palestinian rights movement.
