What Happened
Vunilagi attended a regular team practice session with second-division side Kyushu KV on Monday in Fukuoka, a major city on Japan's southern island of Kyushu. After the session, he required emergency medical attention and was transported to a local hospital with what the club described as symptoms consistent with severe heatstroke. He remained hospitalized for four days before being pronounced dead on Friday morning.
The club issued a statement expressing devastation at the sudden loss, noting that Vunilagi had only recently joined the team. "Although Saimoni had only recently joined Kyushu KV, his generous spirit and powerful style of play had raised high hopes for his contributions in the upcoming season," the statement read.
