Sheikh Qassem’s Address on Resistance

In a powerful inaugural speech, Sheikh Naim Qassem, the newly-appointed chief of Hezbollah, declared the organization's unwavering commitment to thwarting Israel's extensive plans for domination in the Middle East. In his address on Wednesday, Qassem articulated his intent to build upon the strategic vision established by the late leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. He asserted that Hezbollah would pursue a “war plan” aimed at confronting the Israeli regime, which he described as a “major scheme” supported by Western and European powers.

Supporting Gaza: A Key Component of Resistance

Qassem emphasized the necessity of supporting Gaza as a critical element in countering the perceived threats posed by the Zionist regime to the region. He reminded listeners that Hezbollah was established in 1982 specifically to resist Israeli occupation and its aggressive expansionist policies. Qassem addressed the criticisms aimed at the Resistance, which suggest that its actions incite Israeli aggression. He urged the audience to remember the 75 years of Israeli atrocities, asserting that the Resistance has played a pivotal role in liberating Lebanon from Israeli occupation.

He stated, “Some argue that Israel was provoked, but does Israel need a pretext?” Highlighting the long history of Palestinian suffering, he pointed out that it was the Resistance, not international resolutions, that expelled Israel from Lebanon.

Confronting a Global Project

Sheikh Qassem articulated that the conflict extends beyond Lebanon and Gaza, framing it as a global struggle against the forces of Resistance. Referencing comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding a “New Middle East,” Qassem warned that the current aggression is part of a broader attempt to eliminate Resistance movements across the region. He described the ongoing conflict as a Zionist war that is fundamentally American, European, and global in nature, insisting that it employs all means of brutality to advance its objectives.

He asserted, “We must confront it rather than stand by and watch,” calling for unity against the aggression that he believes undermines Western values due to their bias in favor of Israeli actions.

The Future Shaped by Resistance

In his address, Qassem reinforced the idea that the Resistance is not fighting on behalf of any external party but is fundamentally focused on defending Lebanon. He stated, “No one fights on our behalf, and we do not fight on behalf of anyone. Our project is to protect our land and defend our country.” Acknowledging Iran's support for Hezbollah, he praised the Islamic Republic for its unwavering assistance, noting that it has never sought anything in return.

Remembering Heroes of Resistance

Sheikh Qassem expressed gratitude for his election as leader of Hezbollah, viewing it as a testament to the trust placed in him. He paid homage to the legacy of Sayyed Abbas al-Musawi, the first leader of Hezbollah, and the enduring spirit of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Reflecting on the sacrifices made by leaders and fighters, he offered condolences for the martyrdom of significant figures, including Sayyed Hashem Saffieddine and Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, whom he hailed as “icons of heroism and resistance.”
