Pentagon Chief Confirms US Pause on Weapons Shipment to Israel
Lloyd Austin asserts that the US "has not made a final determination" on arms transfer amidst concerns over Israel's Rafah offensive.
Recent reports show that the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip has claimed new victims. Raed Nims, media representative of the Palestinian Red Crescent, expressed concern about the increasing number of Israeli airstrikes on camps in the central Gaza Strip, aimed at forcibly displacing residents to the south.
Tragically, many overcrowded IDP accommodation camps in the town of Khan Yunis were targeted in these raids, resulting in many deaths and injuries. Israeli massacres continue to claim victims among innocent Palestinians in different parts of Gaza.
As many as 41 people lost their lives due to continuous aerial and artillery bombardment by the Israeli occupation forces.
The Al-Khalafa mosque, the area surrounding Nasser Hospital, and several houses where displaced people lived were targeted by a series of Israeli airstrikes, killing at least 20 civilians and wounding dozens. A house housing displaced people was also bombed, killing 14 people, while another house in Deir al-Balah camp was targeted, killing at least four civilians and wounding others.
Additionally, an occupation plane bombed a house near the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Hospital in Deir Al-Balah, causing further injuries. An occupied house belonging to the Hamouda family was also hit by occupation forces, killing seven people.
In the Al-Salam neighborhood, east of Rafah, four civilians were killed and others injured when they were targeted by occupation forces near the Aisha Mosque. Furthermore, the Israeli shelling of a house in the Maghazi camp killed two people, while others were injured or missing.
The government press office in Gaza condemned the occupying army's tactic of forcing civilians to flee only to bomb and commit massacres against them. They declared that such acts of genocide against innocent civilians were a “disgrace to humanity” and urged the international community to quickly intervene and put an end to the ongoing genocide committed by the occupation forces. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will tour the Middle East, starting with a visit to Tel Aviv. This tour comes at a time of growing concern about the growing scale of the war in Gaza. The White House has stressed that Hamas still has significant capabilities inside Gaza, even after three months of Israeli aggression.
In a worrying development, South Africa has filed a lawsuit against Tel Aviv at the International Court of Justice, accusing the country of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The White House has rejected these accusations.
Adding to growing discontent, a U.S. Department of Education official resigned in protest of President Joe Biden's stance on the war in Gaza, highlighting a voice of dissent within the administration.
Additionally, a group of 17 staffers from President Biden's re-election campaign wrote a letter warning that his aggressive stance could cost him voters as volunteers withdrew and longtime party supporters did not feel safe.
