After failing to form a coalition against Yemen and deterring it with military threats, the United States has targeted numerous individuals and organizations believed to have helped funnel financial aid to Yemen.
Yemen recently came under US surveillance for hostile actions after it was seen intercepting or attacking Israeli ships or vessels visiting Israeli ports on the Red Sea in an effort to stop Tel Aviv's ongoing massacre in the Gaza Strip. The head of the Sanaa Foreign Exchange Association and three foreign exchange centers in Yemen and Turkey will be sanctioned, according to a statement released Thursday by the US Treasury.
The report said the victims were responsible for "facilitating the flow of financial support" to Yemen's national rescue government and the Ansarullah movement. The sanctions freeze all US assets held by the targeted companies and generally prohibit Americans from doing business with them.
Brian E., Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. Nelson accused Ansarullah of destabilizing the region by launching dangerous attacks on international shipping.
"The United States, together with our allies and partners, will continue to target the key networks that enable Ansarullah's destabilizing activities," he added. In recent weeks, a series of naval strikes have been carried out against Yemeni forces in the besieged Gaza Strip in cooperation with the Palestinians. Yemen has already warned that it will block all Red Sea ships bound for the occupied territories. The Bab al-Mandeb Strait is an important waterway between Yemen and Northeast Africa, connecting the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and the Israeli port of Eilat. About $1 trillion worth of goods pass through the strait each year. The European Union previously agreed to contribute to the US-led coalition against Yemeni forces. However, in a major setback, France, Spain and Italy later formally withdrew from the controversial alliance. The three countries said they promised to act only under the guidance of international organizations such as the United Nations, NATO and the European Union and decided not to join the United States.
The Ansarola leader recently said that if the United States and its allies launch a military offensive against Yemen, Yemeni forces would not hesitate to attack American warships in the Red Sea. Yemenis voiced their support for the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation after Tel Aviv launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7 following a surprise retaliatory attack by the Palestinian resistance movement, known as Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.
The Palestinian resistance group Hamas said Yemen's attacks on ships bound for Israel would send a message to the West to either end the ongoing genocide or wait for the crisis to widen in the region.
