Joe Biden pledges not to grant a pardon to Hunter.

President Joe Biden has pledged not to issue a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, following the latter's recent conviction for violating federal gun laws. The verdict was announced by a Delaware jury on Tuesday, months before the 2024 presidential election, where Biden is set to face former President Donald Trump.

Hunter Biden was found to have breached gun laws by neglecting to disclose his crack cocaine addiction when purchasing a revolver in 2018. While acknowledging his struggles with substance abuse, his defense team argued that he did not identify as an addict at the time of the weapon's acquisition.

Addressing reporters during a news conference at a G7 meeting in southern Italy, Biden stated, "I am satisfied that I’m not going to do anything – I said I’d abide by the jury’s decision. I will do that. And I will not pardon him." When questioned about the possibility of commuting his son's sentence, he firmly responded, "No."

Biden reiterated his support for his son, emphasizing Hunter's journey to overcome addiction and praising his character. "I’m extremely proud of my son Hunter. He has overcome an addiction. He is one of the brightest, the most decent men I know," he remarked.

Hunter Biden could potentially face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000. The sentencing date has yet to be determined.

Last year, the prosecution pursued a plea deal with Hunter Biden, but the proposed agreement collapsed following criticism from the judge.

Republicans and conservative figures have leveled accusations of corruption and influence-peddling against Hunter Biden, alleging his actions were on behalf of his father. The Bidens have consistently denied any wrongdoing.
