Rising Toll Among Soldiers and Veterans
Haaretz reported that at least nine additional soldiers who served during the Gaza war, either in regular service or the reserves, have died by suicide this year after completing their active duty. The military has identified multiple cases where participation in the war was directly connected to suicide, including reservists diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after serving in or around Gaza.
The figures reflect a broader pattern of increasing military suicides since the war erupted on October 7, 2023. Before the conflict, the Israeli military recorded an average of 12 suicides annually over the preceding decade.
