In western Idaho and eastern Oregon, firefighting crews using bulldozers and helicopters have been battling a massive grassland fire for ten consecutive days. That blaze has scorched nearly 1,360 square kilometres (525 square miles) and threatens more than 600 homes and 800 additional structures across cattle ranching territory.

In central Utah, a separate wildfire more than doubled in size over the weekend, expanding from approximately 41 square kilometres (16 square miles) to 145 square kilometres (56 square miles) by Sunday morning. Local law enforcement confirmed that more than 100 cattle have been killed in that fire.

Senator Maria Cantwell addressed the situation during a joint news conference with federal, state and local officials in Spokane. "We are not out of danger," Cantwell said. "The next couple of days will be challenging." Her remarks underscored the precarious position facing firefighters as dry weather patterns persist across the region.

The simultaneous fires across multiple states have stretched the capacity of responding agencies, with resources deployed across Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Utah simultaneously. No containment figures have been released for the Spokane-area fires.
