Rapid Escalation in Hours
The sequence of events unfolded rapidly. On Tuesday night, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a ballistic missile attack targeting US forces. CENTCOM described it as an attempted "surprise attack" and stated that all incoming projectiles were intercepted. The IRGC claimed responsibility, citing "aggressive actions" by the US military and warning that operations would continue as long as Washington persisted with what it called "illegal and malicious actions" against Iranian interests.
By Wednesday, Trump had signalled an uncompromising response. Speaking at the White House, he confirmed Iran had fired five missiles and credited US Patriot air-defense systems with intercepting all of them. "We're going to be hitting them very hard because it's our turn to hit them," Trump said. Hours later, CENTCOM announced the bombing operation had commenced.
